FLI Water and Microvi Biotech Expand Partnership to Bring MNE™ Biological Treatment to More UK Sites

FLI Water and Microvi Biotech have expanded their existing strategic partnership, moving into the next phase of a collaboration that has already delivered results in the UK market.

The expanded agreement will accelerate the development, marketing and delivery of MNE™ (MicroNiche Engineering™) based biological treatment solutions for water and wastewater applications across the United Kingdom. It brings together Microvi’s proprietary technology, which encapsulates high performing microbial strains to deliver enhanced contaminant removal in a fraction of the footprint of conventional biological treatment, with FLI Water’s established UK market presence, engineering capability and relationships across water utilities and industrial operators.

Why this matters for UK operators

Tightening effluent consent limits, growing scrutiny of PFAS and micropollutants, and net zero targets are pushing water companies and industrial dischargers to improve treatment performance without the capital cost, land take or carbon burden of conventional plant expansion.

MNE™ is a compact, drop in format designed to upgrade existing infrastructure rather than replace it. That is particularly valuable at the space and capital constrained sites common across the UK network.

What the partnership brings together

Microvi’s MNE™ platform. Encapsulated high performing microbial strains delivering enhanced contaminant removal in a fraction of the footprint of conventional biological treatment, deployed at more than 45 sites globally.

FLI Water’s delivery capability. Process design, manufacture, testing, installation, commissioning and MEICA, backed by established relationships across UK water utilities and industrial operators.

A route to real site challenges. Nitrogen and ammonia removal, PFAS remediation, greenhouse gas emission control, and net zero and circular economy applications.

MNE™ is already active in UK commercial applications. This next phase extends that footprint, giving water companies, wastewater operators and industrial clients a clear route to MNE™ based solutions delivered through a partner with deep local project delivery experience.

What the partners say

“We are very pleased to expand our strategic partnership with Microvi and move into the next phase of the positive working relationship already established between our teams. Microvi’s innovative biological treatment technology complements FLI Water’s engineering, fabrication and project delivery capabilities. Together, we can bring customers across the United Kingdom practical, high performance solutions.”

James West, Managing Director Designate, FLI Water

“FLI Water continues to be an ideal partner for the UK market, a team with deep, on the ground relationships across water utilities and a track record of delivering treatment upgrades that hold up to Ofwat’s standards. This next phase of our collaboration gives MNE™ a fast, credible path to scale across UK water and wastewater sites, building on the results we have already shown with a number of UK companies.”

Fatemeh Shirazi, Founder, CEO and CTO, Microvi

The expanded partnership marks the next phase of collaboration between the two companies. Financial terms were not disclosed.
