Biological Aerated Flooded Filter (BAFF)
Efficient, Flexible, and High-Performance Wastewater Treatment
Introduction
The Brightwater™ BAFF® is the UK’s leading Biological Aerated Flooded Filter (BAFF) technology, incorporating the latest process and engineering advances to provide a compact, cost-effective solution for wastewater treatment. Designed with flexibility and innovation in mind, the Brightwater™ BAFF® is suitable for a wide range of applications, serving populations from 500 to over 350,000 and achieving high-effluent quality standards for secondary and tertiary treatment.
The BAFF® system is recognised for its robust, reliable performance, providing high-quality final effluents with levels of 5/10/0.5 mg/l (BOD/SS/NH3-N) or better. It is ideal for carbonaceous, and ammonia removal duties and is built to withstand shock loading, including solids overload, and to operate effectively under saline conditions. With its small footprint and low capital and operating costs, the Brightwater™ BAFF® system is the preferred choice for efficient and flexible wastewater treatment.
Applications:
- Secondary and Tertiary Treatment: Effective for a range of treatment applications, delivering high-quality effluents suitable for both secondary and tertiary processes.
- Carbonaceous and Nitrification Duties: Optimised for carbonaceous removal, nitrification making it suitable for various treatment needs.
- Municipal and Industrial Wastewater: Ideal for both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, capable of handling varying consent levels and serving populations from 500 to 350,000+.
- Resilient Performance in Challenging Conditions: Operates effectively under saline conditions and is resistant to shock loads, including solids overload, ensuring reliable performance in diverse environments.
Key Information:
- Adaptable to Different Plant Sizes: Capable of serving populations from 500 to over 350,000, providing flexibility for a wide range of project sizes.
- High-Effluent Quality: Consistently delivers effluent quality of 5/10/0.5 mg/l (BOD/SS/NH3-N) or better, meeting stringent regulatory requirements.
- Compact Footprint: Designed to minimise space requirements, reducing overall construction costs and land use.
- Resistant to Shock Loads: Handles sudden changes in load, including solids overload, maintaining stable performance.
- Operates Under Saline Conditions: Suitable for coastal and saline environments, ensuring versatile application.
- Minimal Pre-Screening Needs: Requires only 6mm upstream screening, reducing the need for extensive pre-treatment.
- Cost-Effective: Offers low capital and operating costs, making it an economical choice for both new builds and retrofits.
Key Benefits:
- Provides superior effluent quality, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
- Accommodates varying plant sizes and consent levels, offering versatile solutions for different project requirements.
- Small plant size minimises land use and associated costs.
- Built to withstand challenging conditions, including high solids load and saline environments, ensuring long-term reliability.
Low capital investment and operational costs make it a cost-effective solution for a wide range of applications.
