Biomedia
Optimised Biological Treatment for Efficient Wastewater Processing
Product Overview
FLI Water’s Biomedia range is designed to optimise biological treatment processes across both municipal and industrial wastewater applications. Our advanced Biomedia, including B-Max, Bio-Blok, and the high-performance Bio-Chip, provides effective solutions for the removal of carbonaceous materials, and ammonia. Originally developed for municipal wastewater treatment, these media are also highly effective in challenging industrial environments, including leachate treatment and the management of various industrial effluents.
The structure of FLI Water’s Biomedia is meticulously engineered to support the natural bacteria involved in the nitrogen cycle. By offering an extensive surface area for bacterial colonisation, our media ensures that biological activity is maximised, enabling efficient treatment processes. Once established, the bacteria within the media are highly resilient, ensuring consistent performance even under varying conditions.
Applications:
Municipal Wastewater Treatment: Perfect for enhancing biological processes in municipal treatment plants, ensuring efficient removal of organic matter and ammonia.
Industrial Wastewater Treatment: Ideal for treating industrial effluents, including leachate and heavily polluted industrial wastewater.
Nitrification and Denitrification: Supports comprehensive ammonia removal, critical for meeting environmental standards.
MBBR and IFAS Systems: Bio-Chip Media is optimised for use in Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) and Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge (IFAS) systems.
Tertiary Polishing: Suitable for advanced treatment stages, ensuring the highest quality effluent.
New Builds and Retrofits: Perfect for both new installations and upgrading existing systems, allowing for simple and effective performance improvements.
Key Information:
B-Max
Specifically designed for applications requiring a high surface area for bacterial growth, B-Max is suitable for both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.
Bio-Blok
Engineered for robustness and longevity, Bio-Blok offers a durable solution for biological treatment processes, capable of withstanding harsh industrial environments.
Bio-Chip Media
Sector-Leading Surface Area: With an available specific surface area greater than 3,200m²/m³, Bio-Chip Media offers extensive space for biofilm growth, ensuring high treatment efficiency.
Engineered Pore Structure: Optimised thickness for diffusion depth, allowing all biofilm to be active, and providing protection against clogging.
Key Benefits
- Large Surface Area for Bacterial Colonisation: The intricate structure of the media provides ample surface area, ensuring a high density of bacterial colonies essential for efficient biological treatment.
- Enhanced Nitrogen Cycle Support: Optimises nitrification and denitrification processes by facilitating the growth and sustainability of essential bacteria.
- Durable and Resilient: Designed to withstand challenging conditions, ensuring long-term performance and minimal degradation over time.
- Reduced Mixing Energy (Bio-Chip): The round paraboloid shape of Bio-Chip Media ensures efficient mixing with minimal energy consumption.
- Lower Media and Tank Volumes (Bio-Chip): Bio-Chip requires lower volumes of media and tank space, reducing overall system footprint.
- Non-Clogging Design (Bio-Chip): Excess biomass is easily removed by shear forces, maintaining optimal performance.
- Sustainable Treatment Process: Promotes natural biological processes, reducing the need for chemical interventions and contributing to a more sustainable wastewater treatment approach.
