Severn Trent Water Ltd

Project Name:

Shifnal STW – AMP7 Compliance & Process Performance Upgrade

Objective:

Achieve compliance with tightening effluent quality permits under the Water Framework Directive (WFD)

Principal Contractor:

FLI Water

Project Overview

FLI Water has been appointed to design, construct, and commission upgrades to Shifnal Sewage Treatment Works (STW) as part of Severn Trent’s AMP7 WFD programme. The works will ensure long-term compliance with evolving environmental standards and improved operational performance.

Our Scope

✔️ New Primary Settlement Tank (PST) de-sludge pumps to existing sludge holding tanks
✔️ NSAF effluent pipe modifications for process optimisation
✔️ Tertiary solids removal (TSR) effluent and overflow pipework
✔️ Wash water pipework modifications and extension
✔️ New TSR unit including pumping station and MCC
✔️ New dirty backwash tank and pump station
✔️ Installation of a new chemical dosing plant
✔️ Enhanced final effluent monitoring for regulatory compliance
✔️ New laboratory facility to support on-site analysis and process control

Project Progress & Impact

The project is approaching the final stages. The concrete slab in front of the chemical dosing area has been completed, and the TSR pumping station wet well is fully installed.

The team encountered a nesting bird, which required us to isolate the area to ensure we did not disturb it, this has caused a delay in commissioning the TSR system. We expect these works to now be completed by mid-July 2025.

Once complete, these upgrades will significantly improve the site’s operational efficiency and help Severn Trent Water meet its regulatory commitments under AMP7.
